As many business and individual owners know, most laptops no longer ship with a system recovery disc. Although this issue has been somewhat reconciled as all new laptops with Vista ship with a section of their hard disk drives allocated to recovery data. This allows, upon a nominal failure of the Vista operating system, for a user to restore their original factory system from the hard disk partition. HOWEVER, unfortunately this also means that upon a more significant failure such as hard disk crash, it is unlikely that the laptop can be recovered - unless the recovery data was ALSO backed up to discs. It is our recommendation, having seen clients struggle with this issue several times, that ALL new business laptops be immediately backed up on DVDs using the System Recovery Tool. This technique will alleviate any problems caused by more catastrophic failures, and ensure future recovery is possible without significant costs.
