We have been receiving more and more frequent call outs regarding Microsoft® Outlook 2003 and 2007.
An Outlook personal folder file greater than 2GB may become corrupted. This is highly dependent on whether you imported from earlier versions or had database integrity errors prior to the growth.
For this reason, we are recommending to all of our clients that you immediately perform the following checks to ensure your Outlook data and also your Outlook email back-ups will remain functional:
1. Reduce the overall size of your Outlook.pst file by creating new Personal Folders and storing older or larger emails (with large attachments) into the new folders and NOT in your Inbox or current Personal Folder.
2. Regularly run the Outlook scanning and recovery tool called Scanpst.exe found on almost all Windows PCs under the following folders:
Outlook 2010
32-bit Windows; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
64-bit Windows; C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
Outlook 2007
32-bit Windows; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
64-bit Windows; C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12
Outlook 2003
32-bit Windows; C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\\scanpst.exe
3. Backup your Outlook emails in increments less than 2GB file sizes.
If you are unable to run the SCANPST.EXE utility, or need assistance ensuring your emails and Outlook data are properly backed-up, please contact our engineering team for assistance.
