As more Windows 7 users begin probing their new found OS, few have discovered a little "gift" Microsoft's developers have included.
This excellent CNet article provides some brief details.
This tool basically allows you to easily use core Windows tools like Task Manager or Control Panel by viewing it as a folder.
To get quick access to seeing for instance ALL CORE CONTROL PANEL FUNCTIONALITY IN ONE PLACE, create a new Windows 7 folder and rename this folder to explicitly this:
AllTasks.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Once created, this folder will basically include hundreds of core tasks from Control Panel, Printer panel, etc. in one single place.
NOTICE: This feature ONLY works on Windows 7 x64, Windows 7 x86.
Want to know WHY/HOW this really works?
It is firstly, not a God mode of any kind.
Instead, it is a known developer feature that allows for using Windows "junction" points which allow you to use system folders as direct access to core functionality. In this case the ALL TASKS FOLDER is used.
You can therefore easily create junction points from folder names using this technique:
1. create a folder in the appropriate location and rename it with ANY name followed by a period
2. follow the period with ANY Windows Class Identifier
3. find such identifiers in your Registry
In the case of the pretend "god mode" you are simply using the class identifier for the ALL TASKS FOLDER!
{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
You can use this technique to instantly access other Windows class identified areas including:
Administrative Tools.{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524153}
Network Places.{208d2c60-3aea-1069-a2d7-08002b30309d}
etc...
Enjoy!
